5 CAMERA SHOTS
Shot #1: POV shot
Purpose of shot: This shot shows what the character was looking at and feeling, essentially the camera are the 'eyes' of the subject.
Why I chose this shot: I wanted to show a perspective of a small gross creature being looked down so the perspective that we are looking through is the small creature. From their eyes we can see two girls are looking at the creature in disgust. By using this show, I allowed the viewer to feel as if they are in the body of the creature.
Experience filming this shot: Since this was the first shot I filmed, I had the giggles. I also kept messing up the shots because my friends were also laughing. Luckily, after a few minutes of letting our laughs go out, I was able to successfully record from a POV angle.
Shot #2: Over the shoulder shot
Purpose of shot: This shot creates some sort of intimacy and closeness between the viewers and the actors in the scene because the viewer feels as if they are included in the conversation. Also, this shot helps the viewer understand the connection between the two subjects as they speak.
Why I chose this shot: I established a connection and a sense of closeness between the person watching the video and the actresses in the video. By filming from this angle, those who are viewing the video can not only closely listen to what the girls are discussing but also act as a third person perspective looking into the conversation from behind the shoulder.
Experience filming this shot: This was one of the more difficult shots to film because so many students were sprawled out in the area where we were filming so it was hard to find a spot where there would be no students. I decided to go near the weight lifting room and although it was a bit loud because of the students playing music in the background, it was the emptiest area. Overall, it was a decent shot.
Shot #3: High angle shot
Purpose of the shot: In this shot, the camera is supposed to look down on the subject which makes the subject look small and in most cases powerless and vulnerable.
Why I chose this shot: The camera angle highlights on a girl trying to check out the time, so while most of the shots at this angle are done to make the subject look weak, I chose it simply to make the subject look small.
Experience filming this shot: This was the simplest shot to film. I already knew where I was going to film it and it worked out perfectly because I was able to stand on a bench since I am quite short and filming from a high angle would not have worked out well. The bench I stood on helped capture the angle nicely.
Purpose of the shot: A wide view informs the audience about who is in the frame and their relation to where the setting is located.
Why I chose this shot: I chose this shot because it gave me a lot of room to work with. Also the audience has a clear view of the setting and location ( outside a school hallway). With this show, the viewers are able to see the full body of the actresses. Furthermore, I chose this shot to show the connection of the actresses and how they have a friendship as they both are speaking to each other and have comfortable body language.
Experience filming this shot: This was somewhat of a difficult shot to film due to the restrictions on our locations. There were also students in the background filming the shots that they needed to it was a bit difficult to tell them to move.
Purpose of the shot: A mid shot is used during a lot of dialogue scenes and since it shows the background as well as the subject equally, the audience can focus both on the subject and background.
Why I chose this shot: A lot of the inspiration that came from this shot was from the show 'The office'. The office uses a lot of Mid-shots. The viewer can focus on the subject, as well as the background which as also extremely important for them to understand the clip.
Experience filming this shot: I wanted to find a background that would have made sense in the overall shot and that was a bit of a struggle. Eventually, we filmed the shot inside the school by a bulletin board. This was also a better shot to film compared to the others because we had air conditioning and much better lighting.
This blog was beautifully done. I love the low angle shot, it's my personal favorite out of all five. You also did a great job at explaining what your goals and experiences were with each shot, in both an informative and an entertaining way.
