Title shots and sequences

 The Office

The Office's opening starts off with the the 'Scranton welcomes you' allowing those watching to already know off the bat where the show takes place. Then, the Dunder Mifflin warehouse is shown and it is where the people work. After, we see the workers in their natural working habitat, for example we see Michael Scott leading his "Diversity Day" training and Jim Halpert on the phone. A lot of what is shown is normal office job duties, besides Dwight shredding the card. The show revolves around people who work an essentially boring office job (hence the title the office), however what goes on inside the office is far from normal considering all the chaos that happens. The mood is natural and authentic, we do not see perfect angles, there is shaking and it almost looks as us the viewers are inside the office, which is the entire point of the show.

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead's introduction immediately captivates the horror aspect as it opens with a cracked window and an empty hallway. Along with that is the ominous and mysterious instrumentals playing in the background. Moreover, we can see broken picture frames, abandoned parking lots, dead animals, empty grocery store isles, a run down hospital and the city of Atlanta in ruins demonstrating terror and fear. Also, the dark grey filter mimics the zombies and their lifeless bodies. Finally, the title scene shows 'The Walking Dead' in bold beige letters and as the seasons go on, the letters decay showing how time has passed by. All of this contributes to the apocalyptical life.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before (P.S I still love you)

The opening scene in To All The Boys I've Loved Before (P.S I still love you) is an exact replica of the 80s film 'Adventures in Babysitting', so those who know about the old film already get a sense of what this movie is about. We see a teenage girl dancing in her bright colorful room, singing in the mirror, switching clothes, all of this indicating that the movie will be most relatable to a younger, most likely female, audience. The background song is "Then he kissed me" by the Crystals which is a song about young love, indicating that the film is about a high school relationship. Also, since the girl is seen kissing a picture frame of a boy we can assume that this will also involve romance.

Shameless

The show Shameless revolves around a poor family in Chicago and their messy and dirty life, which is perfectly embodied in the opening credits. Everyone is seen sharing one very messy bathroom that is being more trashed than it already is, for instance, we see two people smoking in there and clothes being thrown. We are also shown a baby brushing his teeth with toilet water, adding to the dirty lifestyle. Everything is happening at a very fast pace demonstrating the disordered and tumultuous lifestyle that these people have. In the background we can hear "The Luck You Got" by The High Strung which is upbeat but with a sad message allowing those who are truly listening to the lyrics understand the underlying message of the show, although the poor family still loves each other and stick together (the happy aspect) the alcoholic father ruins everything at the end of the day (sad aspect).

Saturday Night Fever

Saturday Night Fever begins with an establishing shot of the Brooklyn Bridge then other iconic buildings of New York letting the audience know the setting immediately. The loud noises coming from the Subway station give a sense of the hectic life in the city which the main character seems to not be phased by, allowing us to assume that he is a local. The entire opening credit is a montage of John Travolta walking very calm, cool, and collected. He is also dressed in Disco Life fashion making the audience see how the movie might be based on on 70s disco. We get to see him eat pizza, buy a shirt, and check women out, this gives him an almost superhero vibe. Most importantly, in the background, we hear "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees, this song may be referring to how New York city is always "staying alive" since it's the city that never sleeps. This all helps contribute to the fun mood of disco dancing.
