LIGHTING

On our first day of filming (bathroom scenes), we had all of the lights turned on in Alexa's bathroom. We wanted to have the best and brightest lighting because the sun was setting soon so there was no way we could have used natural lighting. So, we had all of the lights turned on during filming so the audience could see best. But, we did play around with the lighting at first to see what fit the aesthetic best.

On the second day of filming (backyard scenes), we filmed in a chronological manner because the sun was setting soon, and we did not want the lighting to look wonky. Since we were outside, we had to follow the natural light. Fortunately, we finished filming right before the sun completely set, so there was no need for artificial lighting.

The only time we used artificial lighting on our second day of filming was when the flashback scene occurred, we were all inside, and filming without the lights on would have been difficult because then the audience would have literally not been able to see anything...

The lighting contributes to the vibes our film gives off. In the film, we begin with happy feelings as we see a young girl go to a party with her friends. Yet, as we progress throughout the film, we begin to have artificial lighting and lower drastically drops. This directly reflects Rachel's mental health struggles, in front of everyone she is bright and vibrant and natural, but when she is alone in her thoughts, she is dull and life is sucked out of her.

Because we were satisfied with the way everything visually looked, we did not feel the need to add different lighting during post-production!
