where did the inspiration for our film even come from?
As a self-proclaimed stereotypical teenage girl, I believe that I have a lot of experience and I have spent a shameful amount of hours watching teenage dramas. So, of course, I knew this genre more than anything else. I knew as soon as I got told that I had to make a film, it was going to revolve around teenagers and all the chaos they face.
A majority of the inspiration I got was drawn from the television show Euphoria and the movie All the bright places. With Euphoria, a big part of this season had to do with one of the main characters getting cheated on, so I integrated that part into our film with the flashback scene with Rachel, Ruby, and Caeleb. Originally, the dialogue we were going to include was a lot more harsh and rude but my group believed it was just a tad bit too inappropriate. It probably was best we kept these drama scenes clean.
As for All the bright places, the main female character is seen as a perfect girl with the perfect family, but you soon see she is severely depressed and actually wants to kill herself. Similar to how I gathered inspiration from Euphoria with the dramatic flashback scenes, I got the inspiration for my main character, Rachel. We showed her as a perfect teenage girl, but behind the fake smile, there was a very sad and lonely girl.
Also, I am an avid listener to pop music, so of course, I integrated some pop songs into my imagination when coming up with the idea. Specifically, Fake Smile by Ariana Grande. The song includes lyrics like "I can't fake another smile, I can't fake like I'm alright". Clearly, our character is struggling and puts on a fake smile, but how much more can she take?
So here is where the inspo from my film idea stemmed from :)!
